Chennai roads are rife with Wrong-Way Driving — that is the prevalent term in the English-speaking world outside India for what we call “driving in the wrong direction”. The Germans call it geisterfahrer. No matter what we choose to call it, it is an immense threat to the safety of road users, as it raises the spectre of deadly head-on collisions. And so, we have to draw attention to it wherever it shows up. Here is the first of a three-part exercise by The Hindu Downtown to map Chennai in terms of roads where this problem is rampant.
